Talking Painting the Targa Roll Bar

A previous thread discussed the aesthetics of painting a targa roll bar the same color as the rest of the body. I just had my SC (named "Froggy") painted speed yellow and took the plunge with the roll bar. For those considering a similar color scheme, here is what is looks like...

Good point. I may pick up a "spare" targa top on ebay and re-cover it to match the rest of the car. I suspect it really comes down to how much black trim one uses to offset the primary color. Less trim seems to suggest a more "modern" look while more trim suggests a more clasic look. The yellow roll bar definitely takes a step in the "modern" direction. Hard to say how far one can go in that direction with an older body style before it begins to look awkward. I will likely take your advice and experiment with the next step.

Looks great, I like it. Was it black or brushed stainless before you had it painted....TargaEuro

Thanks ! The roll bar was black before being painted yellow. The rest of the car was brown. Now she is speed yellow - not a color available when the car was built (1980). I was hoping to give it a more modern look - hence the experimentation with the roll bar (and the black side moulding was also removed). I believe there is a white example in the Pelican photo gallery and someone on this board has a lovely green targa with a painted roll bar. Any pics of your Euro?

Thumbs up

I love it.

When I get my fiberglass top and finally muster the funds for a repaint, I'm gonna do the same thing.

However, I'm going Gulf Blue and orange!

Janus-

That is interesting. I think the next step after ordering a fiberglass "Sparetop" and painting it yellow, would be to have the Fuchs centers painted yellow to match. If you want to take it even further, you could get/dye yellow piping on the seats, paint the gauge bezels yellow, yellow embroidered floor mats, etc...
