Engine tin bolts
What size are the M8 seems bolts on the engine tin? 1.25? I need a handful and our host sells them in quantity of 50 (which I ordered, but seem to have been shorted a few).

Bolts on the engine tin are 6mmx1mm thread about 12mm long. Available at the fastener section of the hardware store unless you need the gold ones...

What kind of nut/washer combo are these? Nyloc or regular nut and a lock washer?

Just go to your local hardware store. I did all mine for under five dollars. While you are at it, give those tins a fresh coat of paint and your car will look like a concours winner.

Anyone know why these fasteners used a captive wider and thicker than normal washer? These don't have high clamping load? Worth sourcing wide washers or just use standard M6 washers?

Toddu - yep those are spot on. However I already bought fifty std m6-12 hex heads without the captive washers. What makes those 'body bolts'?

The bolts are called "SEMS" (think that's an acronym for preassembled) bolts. That link I sent you can get 50 for $8. Good deal. If you have the bolts (are they yellow zinc?) already, I think these are the proper washer size -

Yah I bought the yellow zinc bolts from my mcmaster link. What you linked to is basically the same price but with the correct captive washer - a better buy.
I guess what I'm asking is "in theory" why the captive washer? I'm always trying to learn more about fasteners and have not come across this before. Would it achieve the same thing as a flange head bolt?
