Clutch squeaks when released

My 87 Carrera w/G50 transmission has developed a squeak when I release the clutch.

It started two weeks ago.

The car has 160k mi. The PO's mtce records indicate the clutch was replaced 40k mi ago. Don't know if that included everything or just the clutch itself.

The squeak seems to get better after driving the car 10-15 minutes (shorter duration, less pronounced). Our weather got a lot colder about that time, and I don't normally drive the car in the winter. On some shifts it doesn't squeak at all.

Other than the squeak, I've not noticed any operating problems.

Your thoughts?

Squeak from the tranny area or footwell area? Presuming former... Can you call the shop that did the clutch to see if the crossarm was addressed?

Check for loose alternator belt. I had that same problem and turned out to be old belt that needed replacement\

Funny but true...for whatever reason many sounds seem to resonate thru the tranny.

r-mm -- squeak emanates from back end of the car. About contacting the PO's shop, the work was done in 2001, at Autowerks Northwest in Woodinville WA. The work order says, "Replace Clutch Assembly" and "Replace Flywheel".

For the sake of this post, let's assume the cross shaft was not updated. Could that cause the symptom I'm observing?

R & R, I replaced the belt last spring, and may have gotten the tension wrong (ie a tad too loose). Or maybe the belt stretched a tiny bit. Will check. The sound is like that of a belt slipping. Seems odd.

Thanks!

Since the cross arm problem involves bearings degrading i would think it could lead to a squeak. Can you have someone operate the clutch while you stick your head down there to do some forensic listening?

Is the problem exclusively on clutch disengagement (pedal pushed down) or reengagement (pedal released) or both?

So far, it only squeeks when I release the clutch. Maybe the sudden change in RPMs causes the alt belt to slip a little....

its the alt belt. same thing was happening to me and i was stressing about the clutch. new alt belt and all is well

.. did you just try it with the engine off ? if it is mechanical linkage/ bearing it should do it .. will eliminate the alt belt immediately if it does it with the engine off

It was the fan belt...

Yesterday, despite all my blower motor frustration, had one bright spot. Was able to tighten up the fan belt, which solved this problem. One big step forward, two little steps back...

Thanks for your thoughts everyone!
