A proper introduction...followed by another question
 

It occurred to me that though I've asked a few questions here, I've never actually introduced myself. Time to change that.

My name's Taylor, nice to meet you SmileWavy. I'm a 21 year old college senior from Albany New York studying History and Literature at Clarkson University. About a month ago I finally acted on my life-long obsession with Porsches and bought this 1984 ROW Carrera:

It runs and drives perfectly, but that's pretty much where the perfection ends. The A/C is broken (and is coming out regardless), the heater doesn't heat, the sound system is pretty much toast, the door panels/pockets look like Droopy the Dog's face, the dash is cracked, and there's some rust on the passenger side door sill.

Oh yeah, and I'm teaching myself to drive stick in it.

So, needless to say, it has been and will continue to be an adventure. I readily acknowledge that it was probably a stupid purchase, but I have absolutely no regrets. I'm learning as I go, and this forum and it's member's have already been an invaluable source of help and guidance. God knows I'll need a lot of both.


Speaking of which, time for the question:

I bought a set of phone dials off a 924S and mounted snows on them, 195x65s up front, 215x60s in the back. The fronts fit perfectly, but the rears rub bad. As the photo shows, they pretty much but up against the bolts on the trailing arm :

I've got plenty of room in the fender to widen the track, so spacers seem like my ideal option. Could I fix this with a spacer, or are narrower rear wheels the only way to go without replacing studs?

Spacers are your best bet. Cool car!

Put a wanted to buy ad in the used parts for sale/wanted section. Be careful their's some shady people out there.

I'm curious as to why you bought the phone dials when it appears you had Fuchs on it (unless they are fakes, that is). Most, myself included, much prefer the Fuchs.

Oh I completely agree, the Fuchs are definitely preferable. But I needed inexpensive rims for snows, and phone dials were cheaper.

Right, I should have read your original post more closely (you mentioned snow tires in it). :D

Congratulations to your new adult toy! Fot the wheels another alternative would be the Cookie Cutters for winter tires. They were the original wheels on my 79SC (6 and7X15) but I changed them to 6 and 7X16 Fuchses. Both wheels are specified for the 79SC by the factory. Both, with the proper tires should fit your car also.
