Genuine Carrera 3.0 Tail Or Aftermarket?

Hi All,
I recently took the whale tail off of my car to try the tailess look and I was wondering if the tail was original Porsche or not.
The first picture just about shows the part number near the latch but it is obscured by the paint which I dont really want to scratch off.
If anyone can tell the difference between aftermarket or real from photo's please chime in.
Cheers
Bill

pors1968,

All I can tell is that there is a part number not what it is or even how many numbers. It also looks like there may be a * at the beginning or end but that might be my eyes seeing that! I cannot even be sure if I have the number the right way up when looking at it!
I realise this is not helpful but as I said before I don't really want to scratch off the paint.
Cheers
Bill

There is a number of some sort. It looks like it could be 010?

I would bet not. Doesn't look like metal frame and the few full fiberglass factory ones didn't have features like this one. Early license lite protrusions, lack of hood pin mount etc.

group911,
You are correct it is not metal framed just took a magnet to it.
No luck with getting any more of the number either.
Cheers
Bill

This crescent shape means something. I remember reading about that shape I think in the "original duck tail" thread. I'll go back and look. It was there before or after a certain date. I can not remember.

I think that is the offset for the wiper motor. Also, the tail does not look like it has provisions to fit the factory underpanel. I have a pic from my Weissach tail which is very similar to the Carrera 3.0. Unfortunately, I do not have a pic of my 3.0 turbo as that underpanel is completely different.

OK that makes sense WPOZZZ. The thread I was referring to is the "Original OEM tail thread". There is some good info on early turbo tails and 3.0 tails there.
