Hot Start Problem - help!!

My '89 C4 doesn't like to start again after running up to temp and being shut down, like at the gas station. However, after about 15-20 minutes of rest, it will start right up. OEM battery is about 18 months old. When it cranks, it sounds strong. In the 15-20 minutes before it will turn over, it sounds/acts like either a dead battery or starter as the engine seems to turn only about 1/2 revolution - all the while, the radio, lights, electic seats, roof, etc. all seem to function properly. I'm puzzled. Please help!

lame question??

I'm thinking that I might want to focus on grounding straps and/or the starter solenoid. It just bothers me that after the engine cools a bit, it starts strong.

Sorry if this is a lame question, but I'd appreciate any helpful thoughts.

Thanks.

This is not an unusual experience. I recommend disconnecting and cleaning all electrical contacts until they are bright and shiny, coat them with silicon grease like Dow Corning 111 or 112, and refasten them. Including and especially the connections at the starter, the ground strap between the tranny nose and the car body, and the connections at the battery and the ignition switch. Beyond this, you could remove and disassemble the starter and solenoid unit, clean them up, perhaps rebuild with fresh brushes, etc. Your local electric motor repair shop will rebuild it for around $100. If you do all this and still have the problem, I'll fall off my chair.
