Cool Question regarding brakes/suspension on a 75

Hey all,

Well for the first time in my life, I actually took off all the brakes by myself on a 911!! Wooohooo!! Sorry I had to share to joy...see pics of the car. I basically put new Zimmerman drilled rotors, Mintex pads, rebuilt the calipers (painted them red..sorry had to!), and put new stainless steel lines. Now here's my question. Before I took everything off, I was under the impression that I had Boge shocks in the front and the crappy "M" calipers. To my surprise, after cleaning 30 years of grime, I saw that my shocks were Konis and I have the 3.5" spacing "A" calipers..and from what I understand that's really good news correct?? So now if I wanted to upgrade my brakes later, what are my choices? I can't afford Big Reds, so what are the different options as far as discs/calipers?
On the suspension side, do I have to replace the Koni inserts with Konis only? Any recommendations there?

Thanks for all the help!

Michael,

Unless you want to replace the entire strut asssembly ... yes, Koni 's are the required replacement.

Your rotors ... which I assume won't need replacement very soon, can be replaced with the 24 mm thick '84-'89 Carrera rotors, and 'wide A' calipers. And, 32 mm Turbo rotors and calipers are another option!

Warren,

Thanks for the info. When you mention Turbo brakes, what year are you talking about? Or will any 77-89 Turbo work? Will I need to change the hard lines connecting to the calipers? Also how about C2 or 993 calipers/rotors, will they fit?

Thanks,

Looking good Michael! Are you planning on having her back together for Sunday? I hope to you there.

Thanks Ryan,

Been waiting for over a month for my mechanic to put in my 993 TT oil cooler before I can go anywhere. If he can do it before Sunday I'd love to be there...if not I'll be at the next get together!
