Drivers door rattle?

My 76 Targa drivers door is starting to rattle when I go over bumps in the road. it closes firmly with the typical 911 thud and doesn't seem to move when I pull firmly on the door handle. Any ideas what to look for?

Start by removing the interior door skins and see if anything is loose in there. In my case it was just tightening up a couple bolts. Later on the windows started rattling all that was needed was sliding new felt inserts into the rail.

Perfect, sounds fairly straightforward.

Can also be the linkage rods in the door locking mechanisms. They run through an assortment of rubber and Nylon guides that dry out and wear over time.
I pulled the entire window mechanism out of one side (so far) , cleaned greased and replaced all the felts and rubber wipers. Works like new now. Very easy to get the door latch hardware out once the window is out of the way.

My mirror came loose where it bolted to the door. Pretty easy to check. Might want to rule that out.

Chris.

I also found some old bits from the door strap being replaced...a bolt rattling around only when bumpy etc.

Door lock rods in my '75 were making and awful racket. The door panels off and back on is a tedious pita, be prepared to clean, grease, tighten everything while you are in there. Good time to replace those window seals while you are in there if it needs them.

It could also be the anchor point for the windows helper spring. When I picked up my 83 there was a rattle in the door. Turned out to be this anchor point which looks like a short piece of rod stock with a slot cut in the end that the spring hooks into.
