Early fuel tank cleaning and sealing

I keep seeing members talk about getting their gas tank cleaned and sealed, but nobody mentions where to do that. Where in the San Francisco Bay area can I get that done?
Regards,
David

I can highly recommend 'Gas Tank Renu'. The guy down here in Florida fixed my leak, cleaned sealed and coated my tank (from a '77 ) inside and out. A little more expensive than some other options but with no problems of fit and a lifetime warranty against leaks you can't lose. The swirl pot inside the tank was also replaced. No more gasoline smell and no more rusty crud inside the tank.

I can second this.

It is a franchised method, so you'll be able to find somebody local. My local guy said he'd replace the swirl pot with a steel one and coat the outside in factory stone guard while still honoring the lifetime warranty.

Thanks guys, yes one not too far from here. A bit pricey, but sounds like it worth it.

In San Jose there is a place called King Radiato 1701 Alum Rock Ave, San Jose, CA 95116
Phone408) 254-1533) that did a couple of MBZ tanks for me at a reasonable price. Also, in Hayward is Panky's Radiator (21805 Foothill Blvd Hayward, CA (510) 351-0234) that did an excellent job on a 911 radiator -cost a bit more but looked great both inside and out.

Hope this helps

Don't understand how the "frowney face" got in the text - it was unintentional....

How do they replace the swirl pot, do they cut the tank in half then reseal it?

The normal process is to cut a hole in the tank and weld it back up. But when I asked my local guy about the swirl pot, he asked if the car was an old Mercedes or 911. He said the only cars he ever ran into with the swirl pots were old Mercedes and 911's. I asked about how he gets inside of them, and he said he cuts the weld that runs along the lip on the side of the tank, splitting it in half.

So even if they would try to do it otherwise, you can specify that you want it cut that way.

I can't remember the exact price now but about $600. Make sure you have cleaned out all of the gas and rusty residue ( lots of water by hose and soaking with lots of dish soap) as they can't work on them until all the gas fumes are gone, and may charge extra to clean it out for you. My guy warned me ahead of time and saved me $100. Yes, they cut into the tank to replace the swirl pot and then weld it closed. I was very impressed with the work.
