Finally engine overhaul
Well finally it has happened! My car is to the shop to have the engine overhauled.
http://www.pelicanparts.com/ultimate...oads/Empty.jpg first inspection revealed many nasy things. Valves, and guidance ruined, all lower studs pulled, one cylinder destroyed, chain tensioners old style need to be replaced, chain guidance needs to be replaced, and that is just the start! http://www.pelicanparts.com/ultimate...or small 7.jpg Good news is that after spending my life's savings the engine will be as good as new! The Heads will get a complete valve job, kinda necessary to look how the valves have been leaking oil:http://www.pelicanparts.com/ultimate...or small 5.jpg The worst part however is that one of the cylinders has been badly damaged. The gasket has been smashed to pieces in between the head and the cylinder, making it impossible to re-use. Unfortunately they stop making new original cylinders, Mahle is of course making 2.7 cylinders but since they are nikasil based and have different height I have to buy a complete set which is somewhat expensive. So I am currently searching for a used cylinder and piston (in good condition of course) to replace the damaged one. Does anybody have a good suggestion where to find one? Height tollerance is 6! http://www.pelicanparts.com/ultimate...or 6 small.jpg Here you can see the damaged cylinder. Anyway I will keep you all informed and will post some pictures of the progress. If all goes well the old silver one will be on the road again in 2 weeks time. If you see the mess, it is hard to imagine that they can put the engine back together again. ------------------ Joris 75 911S http://members.xoom.com/joogie/Joogie.htm |
Joris,
Why not give van Kessel Porsche in Helmond a call. They have a quite extensive warehouse with used parts. Just make very sure you get the right parts as they are sometimes not to knowledgable regarding years and such. Their phonenumber is 06-53301681. BTW who is doing the rebuild? ------------------ Peter '70 911S Targa |
Hi Peter,
Thanks for your suggestion, I will give them a call immediately! Hope that they can help! Further to your question, Kraan in uithoorn (holland)is doing the rebuild. Especially the old Mr. Kraan seems very much to know what he is talking about. For the rest the cars that they have in their shop for repair and restoration are quite good advertisement by them selves. Besides that I do not know of any other good workshops in the Amsterdam area! ------------------ Joris 75 911S http://members.xoom.com/joogie/Joogie.htm |
Hi Joris
I am parting a 2.7 engine mad would like to help you with some parts. Let me know what you need. PS: I live in Denmark MVH Peter |
Hi there Peter from Denmark,
Thanks for your offer! Basically what I really need is a cylinder including piston of course. The rest of the engine seems to be under control, or at least I can get new parts for it. The cylinder however is a pain, since I can only buy a complete set of 6 cylinders and pistons, which is as you can imagine very expensive. Anyway, if you could part with the set of cylinders this would be of great help. One question though, why are you parting the engine? THanks again for the help! ------------------ Joris 75 911S http://members.xoom.com/joogie/Joogie.htm |
Hi Joris
The engine i am parting was replaced with another due to oil burning. (Valve guides?) I got it fairly cheap. The P&C set should be ok. I have a set of hydraulic chain tensioners for sale too. If you are interesetd in the set send me an E-mail on: peter@scaudio.dk and let`s work somthing out. Thanks Peter Jensen |
