The painter should take the door off to paint.

How is the panel fit of the rest of the door?

When you open the door and lift up on the outside door handle is there any vertical movement? If there is movement the door hinge bushings may be worn and causing the door to sag.

The door striker on the B pillar can be raised to lift the back of the door some.

The window frame is also independently adjustable inside the door shell.

In other words, there are many variables.

Hope this gives you some more ideas of how to evaluate the overall door fit.

Cooper
