1976 911 Door panel question

Hello Team Pelican,
I am gathering parts to replace the RS style interior door panels on my 1976 RoW 911, with the original style panels with door pulls and pockets. I have gathered most of the pats and have one question so far:

In this parts list what holds the bottom of the door panel to the door? Looks like there are mounting points at the pocket cover hinge (#23), at the handle (#20,21), and at the front pocket mount (#10.) The bottom mounts (#14) look to mount to the panel. Do you still use 3 screws along the bottom of the panel (like the current RS panels and later panels??)

Thanks!

Don

If it would help, I'd be glad to journal the change and take pictures along the way.

The door card itself is held in place by 4-6 plastic clips. They are near each corner and at the mid point on each end.

#14 is a plastic mounting point which is screwed through the door card and into threaded nuts which are captive in the door shell. They are M4, .7 X 35mm
These are often stripped or have had a tapping (sheet metal) screw forced into them.

I always clean up first with a tap. When mounting the door card I use an awl to help center the nut cert while starting the fasteners.

The pocket is held to these 3 mounts with tapping screws.

The other screws are tapping screws with a finishing washer.

The cheapest way to buy these trim screws is by the box. You want black #8 and #10 screws. Aveco is the brand.
They offer a plastic version of the finishing washers as well. The originals are brass painted black. I haven't researched these in bulk.

They also make screws to fit stripped holes. Like a #8 head with #10 threads.

Hope this helps some. I can put up some pictures if you want.

Cooper

1976 Door panels

Great Info. Thank You!

Do you know if you can source the captive tapping nuts for the #14 clips?

It also looks like you could make a maybe 3/16 thick black plastic strip (Like #14/1) and screw into those.

I bought new panels from out host. do you need to add any additional spacing foam to the backsides per the originals? I did also get a new set of moisture barriers.

Thanks Again Cooper911SC
