How to hook up an alternator?? 81 911SC

I just received a new alternator from a place other than our host here. I have an 81 911SC and the new alternator has the four screw posts, but no blade connection for a small 5th wire. The old alternator has this blade connection sticking out of a black box that is mounted to it. Could someone tell me if it is possible to hook up this new alternator? What do I do with the blade connector wire?? And of course I want to hook it up right so I have the proper charging indications. Thanks!!!

you have the internally regulated type apparently. you don't use the black wire with these. just tape it to the loom. the other 3 hook up like the old one. make sure you remove the old regulator on the electrical panel. don't just unplug it. too much of a chance someone might plug it back in.

Somewhere on this site is the Porsche technical bulletin for this upgrade. I thought I had it on my hard drive to post, but I must have deleted it.

Basically, the extra wire connected the brushes on the old unit to the external regulator. Since the new alternator houses the regulator on the alternator itself, this function is internal, and the wire is not needed. The procedure outlined in the above post is how I did it also, and it charges great.
