Wevo SL Knob on Hargett Shifter
I am building a car that is light weight with a rough, raw, mechanical feel to it. It's going to be something a bit different than your typical 911. So as a part of this build I got a Hargett shifter as I think it fits well with this theme:
Here it is installed. Yes, I have a full carpet kit, it's just not all installed yet. ![]() Custom shift linkage cover, two layers of perforated metal: ![]() Then I found the Wevo SL shift knob, ultra cool and fits perfectly with the theme of this car: Welcome to Windrush Evolutions - WEVO - Porsche Products But the Wevo knobs won't fit the Hargett shifter right? Well I really wanted this combination, so I called Hargett and found out that their stock knob is just screwed onto a 1/4" stud. I also called Wevo and found out that the SL knob for their shifters (not the version for the Porsche OEM shifters) is held on by a metric allen-head bolt. I figured I could make this work and took the $90 plunge with our host. The Hargett knob is on tight and would be easy to damage removing with channel lock pliers. I used a strap wrench to remove the knob easily without any marks. I then used the double-nut method to remove the stud. The Wevo SL knob is a neat design. There is simply a shouldered hole going through the bottom of the knob. You drop an allen-head bolt through the very top hole in the Swiss cheese pattern of the knob and fish it through the hole in the bottom. An allen wrench can then pass through the top of the knob to bolt it down. The knob fit pretty snugly over the end of the Hargett lever. All I had to do was cut a 1/4" allen-head bolt to the proper length through trial and error and use that to bolt the Wevo knob down to the 1/4" threaded hole in the Hargett shifter that the stud was in. The metric bolt that came with the Wevo knob was a bit bigger, but the 1/4" bolt still holds it tight. Personally, I like the result... ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Kirk Bristol |

That's really clean looking. Have you had a chance to drive the car with the upgraded shifter? I'm debating on running a Hargett myself.

Personally, I am short, so I like how the shift knob is relocated closer to the steering wheel. It means less reaching for me and better ergonomics. I don't think the Wevo SL is much taller than the standard Hargett shift knob though even though Wevo considers it one of their "tall" knobs. The short throws of the Hargett are nice too. I mostly just wanted to post this in case others were wondering, like I did, if this shift knob would work with the Hargett shifter. Maybe it will save them some time searching and calling the vendors and guessing like I did. Kirk Bristol |

I also did this modification to my hargett shifter.
I love the look of the extra light knob. Feels and shifts perfect..... |

I bet this shift knob is even lighter:

Get out of here, you Rennshifter!
![]() I replicated the stock Wevo knob, but made it taller and hollowed out the middle. I had it printed in nylon. It's pretty dang light.

Cool project. Although, for me, there is just something about that solid billet knob that just looks the business.
You will love your Hargett.

I've had a 917-style balsa knob that I never installed. It looks great in a stripped interior but I am wondering how it will look in a full trim OEM interior. I'm guessing it will look out of place.

I don't know...the Carrera GT didn't have a stripped interior and a 917-style wood shift knob looked good in that car....
