Need help with cable routing for ventilation system
I have an 87 carrera which was once a dedicated track car. I'm slowly putting everything back together for street use which includes the entire ventilation system. I'm about to reconnect the vent controls from the dash but I don't know which cable controls what. I know the top lever's cable connects into the trunk area where the center blower is located. The bottom 2 levers connect to the drivers side ventilation duct but I don't know which cable goes where. Can anyone go to their car and look?
Basically does the middle lever connect to the ventilation arm located closer to the front of the car or does it connect to the arm closer to the firewall? Thanks. |

I'm just putting my 1971's back in today.
There is really only one way it goes back together, the cables are different lengths so they really only reach one lever each. Its fairly straightforward once the blower is loosely in place. Here are 2 pictures of a 1983 box I have: ![]() ![]() Here are a few of the 1971 system; ![]() ![]() ![]() Hope that helps. Good luck with those cable housing clips, I hate those things.

Thanks for the pictures. I already have the cables connected where the blowers and flaps are. They just aren't connected by the vent controls on the dash and that's where I need to know which cable goes where.

For example, the picture above where it's labeled #2, which lever on the dash controls that? Once I figure that one out I can figure out the other lever.

#2 in the photo attaches to the middle lever to control the direction of the fresh air (up/down). The cable that attaches to the back side of the distribution box attaches to the bottom lever to control the direction of the heat from the exchangers.
I am just about to cover this topic in my thread: Retrofitting non-A/C ventilation ducts
