Porsche Crest Porsche Recalls

With the recent articles on recalls on certain domestic cars, I became curious what recalls Porsche has made over the years. With some extra time on my hands this evening, I searched the NHTSA database for Porsche for various years. One thing became very clear:

1) Before buying a later model used Porsche (or any car for that matter), you should verify that the recall items have been repaired by the PO. For example, 1992 911's have several recall items I consider serious. I assume older cars like the 80's and earlier have had the issues fixed due to normal replacement and if there was going to be a problem, it would have showed up in 20 years. For 1979 (which I own), there was a recall to check the torque on CV bolts.

When buying a used car, I think as part of any inspection, you should go armed with the list of recall items for the year you are considering and make sure the repairs were done by the PO, in addition to the standard compression checks and so forth.

We current owners may also want to take a quick look to make sure the repairs were made.

Just curious whether any of you checked that recalls were completed before you bought your Porsche? I didn't but I will on my next one, hopefully a 993.

Emissions recalls can be bad too. I was behind a guy whose car didn't pass smog because it didn't have a sticker proving the recall change work had been done, even though it had been. Having the paperwork that proves it's been done is essential.

You can have any recalls fixed at the dealer. It doesn't matter whether you are the original owner or not or how old the car is.
