Question Need Rear Deck Lid shock advise

The '86 Carrera I recently bought has the factory tail, and of course, it's heavy. The single shock that was on it was not holding it up, so I bought two HD shocks and the dual shock kit from Pelican. They held it open, but after I closed it and tried to open the lid again, it jambed on the latch. My reasoning is that the shocks are strong enoug to push the lid out of alignment with the latch.

One of the HD shocks will not hold it up. I have not tried 1 HD + the original.

Assuming that the dual HD setup is pushing things out of alignment, what's the procedure for re-aligning the latch?

Thanks.

Have you tried a search?

A bit of trial and error with a risk of a jammed-shut lid - loosen the deck lid latch bolts and retighten by hand snug-firm. The idea is to allow the latch to move laterally when closing the lid - self aligning the latch plunger independent of the lid as you close the lid, carefully. Close all the way and reopen. Now wrench tighten the latch bolts. Check, and check lid against fender panel gaps and flush alignment. If out of whack you can adjust for these issues with the deck hinges and cork screw rubber stoppers.

I had similar issues and the above worked for me when I replaced my shocks - 2#

Porsche Crest

One solution would be to modify the right hinge for a second shock ... as I did. Or, get a 'Turbo' hinge assembly.

Thumbs up Warren

Ha! That's precisely what Porsche should have done at the outset!?! (IMO)

Problem solved.

I did the latch re-align as suggested by Sean Hamilton, and then attached the standard duty shock in parallel with the HD unit. Perfect. The lid pops and then rises as it should when slightly nudged by hand. Some initial resistance to closing, but not too bad. I'd rather feel that that feel the lid banging the back of my head.

So 1 HD shock + 1 SD shock looks like the way too go.
Thanks for the replies.
