cis airflow meter question.....see picture
 

I've posted a picture of the cis airflow meter, new foam gasket and mounting bolt.

I'm replacing this foam gasket and other o rings on my cis system.

My question: The 6 spring loaded allen head mounting bolts that mate the airflow meter to the airbox. Should these be tightened down until the spring and bolt are fully seated or not fully seated.

I didn't make a note of the torque on them when I removed all 6 of them to remove the airflow meter. Thanx. Lhttp://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1386257654.jpg

Snug them and back off one turn...

As manbridge states, tighten lightly and back off one turn.

I would suggest disassembling the air flow meter and cleaning it while you have it out. I was amazed with the amount of gunk which was built up by the adjuster allen screw. Its hard to see in the photos but the gunk is over 1/8 inch thick.

To disassemble remove the two internal retaining rings on the side of the air flow meter. Careful there is a spring under one side with two ball bearings in it. Its not under much pressure and is very easy to reassemble. Two o rings are also present in there and may be totally worn out like on mine. Pelican sells a rebuild kit which has new retainer rings, ball bearings, side covers, o rings and the spring. I received mine early this week and have my airflow meter back together. The kit is something like $6. Do a search for part number 91111094600 for the kit.

I would love it if anyone could post a perfectly adjusted air flow plate. I'm pretty sure my is adjusted correctly but it's difficult to tell when the only official guidance is a diagram and not a photo.

Also, thanks Digdug for the suggestion. I recently replaced my foam gasket and other O-rings like the OP is doing here but I was wondering if I should also do the section you are doing as well as replace the roller - I just might do that.

Gunk under the AFM is normal and has virtually no effect on the way it functions. By design, blowby gasses are vented into the air box under the AFM which makes cleaning a waste of time.

I agree that normally the gunk wouldn't matter or affect operation of the AFM however on mine it was very thick and flaked off when I cleaned it. Almost like it was crystalized. I would worry about sucking that mess into a cylinder. The other issue was my allen adjuster was frozen due to the amount of crap stuck in the threads and after cleaning it you can actually adjust it. This is the actual reason I tore my AFM down.
