Need another paint code for 67S
Hi guys, its a 67 911S with paint code of 97-6606-L. I'm looking at another early project. Got to break down and get the red book!
BTW I was looking at Cris Harvey's 911 book. In the back he lists the details and prod. numbers of the various series of cars. He shows12,148 A series cars built, but when you add the chassis numbers up he shows you don't get 12,148! WTF? How many 67 S's were actually made? Did 67S's still have M brakes and 5.5" Fuchs? Thanks in advance |

6066...one of the prettiest colors ;) IRISH GREEN! Porsche Family Tree, published by PCA, gives 1967 911S coupes as Vin #'s 305101 thru 307350 1967 911S Targas were 500001 thru 500718. They ran 4.5" Fuchs, but I'm not sure about the brakes...
Hope this helps, and here's an irish green '72 :) Pic is of original paint. |
Well, I knew Paul would know if a car was Irish Green or not, my favorite color by the way. This car must not be a 67 then as its vin is 3081XXS, I'll leave off the last too to protect the guilty. I thought it was a 67, By Chris Harvey's book 67's go to 308523S, for S's of course. I know there is some discrepency it seems with every sorce!:( Its confusing! The one I am looking at is still a late "O" series coupe, Irish Green, and of course its an S...... but its a little rough;)
Now I wonder is the car I'm looking at a 67 or an early 68 before the A series vin switchover? Oh yea thanks Paul!SmileWavy |
Did 67S's all have the appearence group trim?
I assume it should have an aluminum case besides the correct engine number. |
Sorry Dennis, PCA's book only lists the 911 & 911L for '68. But I'm curious now...all the '68 VIN numbers listed begin with 118? Different numbers for USA vs. ROW????

BA's book covers that, the 11 denotes the 911 (12 would denote a 912) and the 8 is the year. The early cars started with 30 or 45 or 50 I belive denoting Porsche built, Karmann built, and the targas.
Back to your curiosity, so am I this vin stuff is why I thought it was a 67, and like I said according to Chris Harvey's book(which I don't claim to be correct) it is a 67 as he claims 67 vins went to 308523S. He also claims the production year ran from Sept '66 to August 67. But he claims 12148 built for the year. That can't be right, he must have included total production including the 912. That would make 12,148 make more sense. Looks like Warren needs to clear this one up! |
Brett Johnson's book...lists VIN#'s for the '67 S to be 307 361S through 308 523S engine serial #'s 961 141 through 962 178 My apology for not reading deeper before making my first post...but definitely seems to be some numbers confusion with this year, doesn't there? Something to do with USA cars and ROW???? I dunno...yep, we need Warren! :D

According to Porsche Spec Book:
From July '66 to Dec '66 the 'S' chassis numbers ran from 305101S to 307360S (2259 built) then from Jan '67 to Jun/July '67 'S' chassis numbers ran from 307361S to 308523S (1162 built) for coupes & from 500001S to 500718S (717 built) for Targas. I make that a total of 4138 '67 S models built. Hope this answers your query. Andy Boyle (UK) '69 911E |
