Odometer nto working

My odometer quit working, the speedometer needle works fine but the trip meter and odometer aren't working.''

I can hear something clicking inside the gauge, any idea what maybe broken?

How do I remove this from the dash? Is it rebuildable?

regards Peter

This is a common issue with Porsches. The sound is most likely the broken gear or stripped gear, which ever. You will need to have the speedometer overhauled. This is the drill and it cost somewhere in the $ 150 range. I don't know anyone who has been able to buy just the broken or stripped gear. So you take it out and send it off to overhaul.

The speedometer is secured with a big o ring and you will have to carefully pry it out until the o ring is no longer holding the speedometer in the hole. Just pull toward you on the edges of the speedometer.

North Hollyweird speedo and Paslo Alto speedo will fix it for somewhere in the $120 range. The little plastic gear is notorious for stripping. It is a good idea to NEVER push the rest button while the car is in motion, heck it is never a good idea to push it at all :-)

The gear itself is available for around $40, I've been searching for a better source for several months now.

SammyG,

I would be interested in purschasing the gear....do you have any information you can share?

The closest one (to me) is Einmalig (888) 777-6772 in huntington Beach, I spoke to Brian Farmer. He told me he had about 10 or so of the gears, but was having touble locating them :-) Now that I think about it, I haven't asked Pelican if they can source them. Duh, I will do that right now.

Lots of places will not sell the gears. i don't know if they are just protecting their business at $120 a pop, or if it is a liability issue, or both.
