Re-Finishing Fuchs - RSR Style Question

Hey guys,

I'm re-finishing some old Fuchs (though they may not all be OE from the markings I've seen) that I recently got and am looking to replica car the RSR style of finish.

I've been cleaning and sanding away and saw a couple DIYs out there for getting this style. Either lots of masking or doing pouring the paint into the wheel when sealed from the bottom side.

My question is this: My front wheels are not that wide - they dont have a stepped lip like some of the wider fuchs. It looks like some people finish a lot of lip on the narrower wheels in the black (including around the tire stem). What is the proper distance to paint the front wheels black? To the red or to the blue arrow on the fronts? The way people finish the rears is to the blue line it seems. (edit: For some reason my arrows from photobucket aren't showing up yet!)

Here are some pictures to help. Thanks for your help. With my beat up fingers and arms I'd hate to mess up the painting once I get to that stage.

For reference, here is what I've seen some people re-finishing the fronts like... the black area beyond the spokes seems to far too me - right?

I think definitely to the blue arrow. The last pic you posted looks strange to me and I think it would be worse if the rears were painted black to the other line. Can't find a detailed pic of my wheels or a full on side shot but this gives you a look at the fronts. These were done by jax911 here on pp so I'm sure you could find his thread for reference.

Thanks Nate - I agree with you - but saw others approach and got confused about how that would really look - thanks for the response.

BTW nice Z4M coupe. SmileWavy I just sold mine after 5 years and 60k miles.

Definitely to the blue line. There should be a noticeable step in the wheel where the paint stopped. Remember that these wheels were dipped when they were new. There were placed on a platform and lowered into the vat of paint.

The last pic you show is of an early style 6" Fuchs wheel. They don't have the step in the lip later style Fuch have.
