FD, AAR ,and AFM all for '81-'83 SC USA. Don't have the throttle body around to check. Everything seems OK except for your WUR-089. Find a good working WUR-090 and start from there. Start in the right direction and everything will fall into place. There is a particular member of this forum that has been battling his CIS woes for over year using different CIS components and trying to over come the problem by hard work!!!!! If you know what you are doing you might get lucky. But you cannot depend on luck all the time. BTW, you could test your AFS switch by using terminal #85 (FP relay socket with relay removed) using a test light or a continuity tester. Connect the test light to a power source like battery + terminal and use terminal #85 as ground. The test light should lit up. Next, with the test light lit, push up the AFS plate up and test light will turn off. When the AFS is down completely, #85 is grounded. AFS up, no ground. Tony |
Chris ,
In the search for where the white T connector should be, try looking for a connector with red and a brown/red wires coming out of the engine harness near the 6 pin CDI connector. |
Hello and thanks for support!
Dennis-Found the brown-brown/red wires tucked up under rr fuse box.Two bullet quick disconnects covered in grime.Another piece to puzzle. Tony-Pleasure talking to you last night, and thanks for the info on the part numbers. Will take you up on the WUR,and thanks for the diagnostic proceedure on the AFS. Jumped the fuel fuel pump relay, and primed the intake by lifting the AFS.Took her for a quick spin and hit 85mph in 3rd@5000rpm.Felt strong,Pulled hard through the RPM range,no flat spots. But thats usually the case with WOT,LOL.Anyways, going to check AFS grounding, then pulling out the CIS today to get to an oil leak in the back of the engine. Will probe the component connections and take a look at my wire color codes while I have good access.Going to research and bench test the individual components before reassembly. Will post my results. Thanks for the support and your time Gentelmen Chris |
Please verify the ID numbers for me?

Chris, I received your payment last week and sent you several PM's. No reply. Please PM where to contact you. Need a tel.# or email. I'll be away for 2 weeks again this month and like to finish all my commitments. Hope everything is OK with you. Let's get your engine running by springtime. Thanks. Tony |
Its been a few months since my last post, but here where im at.Had a backfire that blew the pop off valve clear across the room, and should be getting a new airbox anyday(thanks Tony!)Whilst waiting on the airbox I bench tested the other cis components and all is well.My wiring harness was soaked in motor and unraveling so i cleaned it(CRC wire harness cleaner works wonders)Bead blasted and clear coated the FI intakes ,valve covers, fan and housing.Resealed transaxel, serviced the CVs,clutch T/O arm/assembly(The pin that holds the omega spring was upside down, spline seated in the needle bearing, freezing it,so the spring was rotating around the pin)Removed the BB exhaust the PO paid $900 for 5 years ago and shook 2 handfulls of pea sized melted plastic out of there.Looks like an exhaust backdate is in order! So anyways I will update the post once the airbox arrives and I have some fuel pressure numbers to post>Thanks for all the help,Chris

this is a great reference...thanks for the detailed pics. I have an 81 project and I will be diving into the motor and CIS this summer. This thread will come in handy :)

CIS air box replacement........
Chris,
The air box is on its way. Sorry for the delay because I had to repeat the tests after the first air box failed the freezer/oven tests. I was able to get a good one after testing several air boxes for pressure and vacuum tests. See picture below. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1398181043.jpg The vacuum test showed 15" Hg for 30 mins. and confirmed the absence of any source of air leak in the air box. Packed and shipped to CA. Keep us posted. Tony |
My apologies for the thread high jack. This question is for Dennis:
What is that item to the right of the fuel accumulator behind the lid strut? Quote:

Where did my green connector go ? http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1450481619.jpg

Probably laying over by the passenger side rear shock tower based on the pic in post #3. Assuming it fell off.
This your car? Garage says you have an 87. |

Not sure if it fell off or the last mechanic just didn't connect it. Oh, I told the wife it's her targa :) |
Cool thread guys. Hopefully I'll be putting gas through mine finally this weekend :).
|
It must be connected or fuel pump does not engage.

Duct to now removed a/c rear wheel well condenser that was on the car when I bought it. Now blanked off... :) |

When you turn the key to "on" do you hear the fuel pump run? If so, then leaving it disconnected may be an option. |
