74 Targa Early CIS potential spark issue
 

I have a recently resurrected 74 targa, old story the car was left, non-running for 9 months, PO was over fixing it, I found a brand new Bosch fuel pump in the front seat, acquired the proper banjo fitting, made her run and ended up with another 911. Can't complain I love the light weight and the 7:31 915. Problem is I been having a issues with the motor bogging out at over 3,500 RPM when she warm and I give her full throttle. If I lift and smoothly apply the pedal it is not as bad. When she cold she pulls like a freight train up to 6K. In addition, the condition seems to be intermittent, meaning at times even when the temps are up I experience no symptoms. What direction would you start with? CIS, Timing, Spark, DiZZY??

Test the fuel pressures. System, cold, warm, fuel flow at injectors. if that is all correct then try ignition and timing.

Follow Timmy2's advice and test one system at a time. However, it is important for us to know if you have the original CIS set up for a 74. Your problem sounds like an issue with a too lean condition during wide open throttle, something that should be compensated for by the wur in later cars, but with the throttle positioner valve in the 74. Please let us know if your 74 has that set up, as well as the type (number) of the wur itself. What you have will effect the way you conduct your fuel pressure tests as well as what components may be at fault.
