SC on a diet: part 3
 

I have almost completed the YB transformation of my SC. Total weight lost today is 49 lbs,which brings me to a total of 199 lbs shed. This week it was the installation of the GT Racing rear F/G bumper, #45 on the web site, and OEM 2 in 2 straight out the back muffler. If you gain 7 hp with every 100 lbs. lost, and another 10-15 with the OEM Sport muffler, I have gained 24 usuable HP without any internal mods to the motor. I can't tell you whether it is all the F/G or the muffler, but the car feels brand new.

Here is the rear end assembled. I choice the #45 bumper cap over the standard YB because I did not want to cut the rear valance and I am able to go with multiple muffler types with this set up. Total weight of the rear cap is only 7 lbs. This is a far cry from the 50 + I took off.

I had some reservation about the OEM sport muffler being too loud. While it is louder than my 2-in-1-out pre-74 muffler, I don't find it too loud. It is ralley/race car sounding. It seems to have spread out the torque range a little too. In no time I am up to red line with a strong pull through the RPMs. Very much worth the mod if you like the sound. I have never heard one before an I really like it. And being the nonconformaist that I am, the look is one that IMHO can distinguish my SC from others.

Now to take it all apart again and drop the parts off at the painter.

BTW, the car is still on jack stands when the pics were taken. It is much lower.

It's looking sweet! I'm a big fan of lighter=faster.

Adding lightness is some of the cheapest HP you will ever buy (some of it is free). And it improves the cornering and braking at the same time.

As you know I'm doing FG bits on my '73 project Elephant. Even on the early car I saved 20 lbs relacing the front bumper! I haven't replaced the rear bumper yet but expect a similar savings.

I am looking forward to the pictures of your car painted.

How does that muffler sound?
Did you fire it up with just the SSI's?

And Paul - that is a crap load of weight and I bet the car brakes better too...
