Tire brand and size for 9 and 11x17

Was just wondering about tire brand and tire size. I have 9x17 fronts and 11x17 backs. The car is driven on the street sometimes very spirited. Would like to know what you guys are using and if you like what you have? Right now I have summer tires and am thinking about going to ultra high performance radials. I live in New Engand and the summer tires just don't seem to cut it when the temperature drops. Thanks for any information.

I run kumho 255/40's and 315/35's - they're relatively cheap and I drive a lot of miles - end up replacing them every 1.5 years or so.

I think you'll find that with the wide tires almost any rain becomes a little more exciting than with narrower tires. I once took my hoosier A032's out on the highway in the rain - didn't feel much more loose than my kumho's; they had way more stick than I would have thought.

If you have summer tires now and are unhappy with their performance in colder temps, I'm not sure moving to ultra high performance rubber that meets your requirements is going to be easy. What are you running right now?

I've got Nitto NT05s on my car (235/275 sizing). They've been in the snow/hail once and were OK. Then again, I'm in SoCal. so that's not a big concern of mine.

Hey guys, thanks for chiming in.

76_rookie--thanks for the compliment. Car-homegrown '75. Wheels-Zuffenhaus.

Chuck, I am running Kumho's in those exact sizes. The tires seem to still have plenty of tread left but I must have surpassed the grip of the compound when they were new. I can get the 315's to break loose. I don't think that my engine puts out enough to be able to do that.

Noah, I have been checking out different tires and was thinking about going with those sizes. The tires will be lighter, the steering might be a little easier and will have less rolling friction. And with the 255's on the front I have a small amount of rubbing when I go lock to lock with the steering.

The car is definitely not a garage queen so I do get caught in the rain. No snow yet but it could happen...lol.

I run cooper zeon RS3-s for summer street rain tire.

I have a separate set of Khumo track tires.

If you go this cooper zeon RS3-S route it is the S model, NOT the A ( all season)

Innexpensive and stick well. Haven't tried them on the track yet but good in the rain on the street, and equally good in the dry.

They were apparently designed for Roush as an OEM tire on their hopped up mustangs.

P.S.
I am in canada
