OT: Under 25 - Need Insurance

Hi all,

I've read about many great insurance companies on here for good coverage and great rates (Grundy, Hagerty) but none of them make any allowances for anyone under 25.

I'm in Columbus OH and currently I have an American Family Ins. for my other cars and I'm not opposed to getting separate insurance for the Porsche. It's just I can't find anywhere that will insure me because I'm under 25 (23 to be exact) for a decent rate.

The car is a 1977 911S and Haggerty quoted me something like $104/year. Until they found out I was 23. Then the one (and only ticket for 8mph over 2 years ago in my 7 years of driving) I got was enough to disqualify me for any service from them till I'm 25.

Before I jump in and pay AMFAM $130/month for this car does anyone know of any classic car insurers that are better suited or not biased towards the under 25 market? I just can't see the sense in paying per month what I could be paying per year purely based on age bias.

Thanks for any help or insurer info!

Chad H.

"Give" the car to your mother, have her get insurance, and put you down as a primary driver.

Take her out to a $100 dinner every year.

Unhappy

Great idea! Unfortunately I'm still finishing paying it off (1 year to go) as I took a small loan to finance what I didn't have on me.

I guess I'll just eat the insurance for the time being.

I'm 23 and I get insurance through State Farm. I pay about $600 a year with the Porsche as a second car and only driving it 7500 miles a year. Of course, I've never been in an accident, so that helps quite a bit. You may give State Farm a call.

Thumbs up

Hi,
I was having the same problem with my insurance agency (Safeco Lloyds). However I found Travelers to be quite reasonable and actually quoted me at less than what I pay now. Even with a Porsche being added. I'm only 20 so my rates are higher. However from what I can tell it may be worth your time to give them a call. My record is clean as well.
Good luck.

I'm 21 and my 911 is my first car. I'm insured with Progressive, and I pay $1550 a year, albeit with some largish deductibles (oh, and my record is clean, funny that, hardly having driven in the US before).

every state is going to be different. here in ohio state farm will probably be your best bet (as long as they do under 25).
points on your liscense in ohio come "off" like this.....
ohio DMV....minor points come off in 2 years, major tickets (dui/no liscense) come off in 5 years
the insurance companies look back 3 years for minor, 5 years for dui/no liscense.
reguardless of who you go with use a 6 month policy so when those points come off you get lower rates sooner when they come off go to a full year policy for even lower rates. providing you don't get more tickets.
many places also give discounts for multiple cars, so you may want to keep them all on the same policy.
hope this helps and i think all my facts are correct.

Yeah, $130 a month does sound reasonable.
Geico wanted twice that... "a 15 minute phone call could save you 15% or more"? Yes, but the phone call wouldn't be to you guys.
State Farm quoted me...
$8000 a year. That's like $670 a month. Now *that* is expensive.

When I was getting my motorcycle license, I was in a class with a guy who had a somewhat "spotted" driving record. He called some insurance company, I think progressive, to ask howmuch he'd have to pay on a $6,000 Gixer.

Their quote: $18,000 a year.
