removing door lach

My 1987 coupe has a door latch that is acting up--it will not lock with the central locking solenoid or key. I replaced the locking/unlocking rod attached to the solenoid, since the old one was broken, but the door still refuses to unlock. It appears the latch mechanism itself is jammed somehow.

The Pelican technical guy I talked with today said the latch needs to come out, which means the window track, which is in the way, also needs to come out. Further, I think I understood him to say that on a couple the whole dang window frame needs to come off the door.

Can this possibly be true? Yikes! Anyone done this project?

thanks

Terry

Is it possible that a piece from the old broken rod is jammed somewhere? On my SC, the mechanism isn't too complex once you have everything apart. It takes a while, but you may want to disassemble it all. After cleaning and lubricating you should have a fully-functioning door that is better than ever.

I thought it might be a piece of the old lever, but that came out pretty intact.

I'll pull it all apart and, as you said, lube everything all up.

Thanks

Terry
