Stone gaurds on a 911SC....

Had them on the car before I stripped and painted, now I have a new set to install..

Couple of questions...

1. How do you guys treat the little round torsion bar covers?? Install the stone guard over it? Cut the covers out of the shield?

2. My stone shields don't match the curve of the rear wheel well. Do you guys trim the trailing edge of the shield to match the shape of the fender?

3. Do I mount the stone guard flush with the rubber trim on the rocker, or is there supposed to be a tiny gap between the black trim piece and the bottom of the guard??

Looking at pictures on the forum, I can't seem to find a "standard" way to position them...

Thanks!

That's because Porsche never installed them on the narrow body cars, so what you are seeing are installations done by different individuals. There is no standard.

On the wide body cars, Porsche covered up the torsion bar access holes and the rocker trim rubber overlapped the stone guards. I'd probably do the same on your car.

Trim the rear edges of the guards to match the fender opening. It would look better that way.

+1 on magna graphic if you do it.

I did the adhesive ones on my SC and wish I would have gone with the magnetic ones for flexibility.

Best,
Mike

on my TL (way back) these stone guards do their job. when i sold that car the unprotected part, closest to the edges had lots of little stone chips. when i got my new to me carrera i didn't hesitate to get them. i got the oem ones which are adhesive but taking them off isn't that difficult. i didn't know they made magnetic ones otherwise i would probably gotten those.
