Air cooled wrench near Tacoma, WA?
Hi,
Hoping there might be someone on Pelican that can recommend a shop somewhere near my new home in University Place, WA. I have an '88 Carrera. Any help appreciated, thanks. TL

I was afraid I'd have to go to Seattle. Sounds like its worth it.
Guardsred911- Very kind of you to offer to assist. I just moved up here from SoCal. I bought another car for the PNW weather but am feeling like I'd rather sell that, pocket some money, and "fix" some issues with the Carrera so I can drive it daily year round. I commute from University Place to the north side of Olympia 7-10 times/month. My heat and blower are not working and since they need attention (and 25+ year old cars are smog exempt in WA), I am thinking of some SSI heat exchangers and exhaust. I suck though... don't even change my own oil. I don't know how to check if flap on exchanger is stuck, if there's an electrical issue with the blower, etc. Couple other things too... oil leak at valve cover being the one I'm most sick of. Anyway, I drove the car into work this evening. Nice day here and I was still freezing. But I really enjoy driving the car.

Jack Morris from Wolfsburg Motorwerks Inc is awesome. He grew up in germany and was an apprentice to some master VW and porsche engineers. He's also my cousin.

Welcome to the area! I have an '80, so there are some differences, and a lot of similarities...
Happy to help out.... I did put SSI's on mine.... definitely recommended...! I go the opposite direction to Seattle every day, but I am sure we can figure something out...

Bristows Tacoma, it is a independent shop Pete Bristow is the owner he has a 993 he races. I believe Mike still works there he is a factory trained Porsche tech who knows the air cooled cars well. He has worked on my 86 911 and is very meticulous, so am I and I have no complaints. Ten minutes from your place. Worth a try. Best of luck.

Thanks all.
May give Bristow a shout since I'm not setting up a race car here, but I appreciate all of the recommendations. Guardsred911- we should meet for a coffee sometime. Don't want to burden you with work. Maybe down the road you can show me a thing or two about working on the cars. Jeff- How are you? Still regret not having purchased your old green car. Will be up at Whistler next month... first time, very excited.

Todd,
Doing well, wish we could have made that deal work as I think you would have really enjoyed the car. We can always build you one! ![]() I am sure you will LOVE Whistler! If you have a few hours on your way through, give me a ring at 1-888-304-3953. We are only 8 miles north of the Border!
