4 Speed Transmission Shift Knob - Where to get?

Does anyone know where to get a replacement shift knob for a 901 trans? The one on my '71 is worn to point it isn't legible anymore and just looks bad.

The 5 speed ones seem to be readily available, but can't find the 4 speed ones. I don't guess there are many 4 spds out there.

Thanks in advance,

Wes

Wes, the later Turbos came with a 4 speed. You might want to see if the shift knob would fit your need.

Thanks Harry,

It looks like the G50 has the same shift pattern but I'm wondering if the emblem fits in the early shifter knob? If there isn't an OEM type replacement, I'm leaning towards making my own.

I can't be the only one that has run into this issue. Is anyone running a 4 speed trans?

Did you check ebay ?
There are several 4 speed shifter knobs.

I just looked at ebay. I'm not seeing anything with the same shift pattern as mine (R is up to the left) in any better shape.

Do I have the trans I think I have?
Below is a Hurst knob I found with the same pattern. Does anyone know what thread they are?http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1388163931.jpg

Chech our host for the early 930 shift knobs. They would be for an 915 4-speed transmission.

I apologize, I must be blind or computer illiterate...or both.

This is what I see for knobs on the host website:

Am I missing it?

There is this one: Pelican Parts - Product Information: 911-424-069-01-OEM

You can also check our pals at that place in Willoughby, Ohio.

It's surprising they are that rare. Many '69-71 T's got the standard 4 speed. They were also really common on 912s.
I don't think I have a spare but will check. I put a '65 356 style one on my car and can't remember if it had the original 4spd knob or not. If I find it I will let you know.

Wes,
DANSK (the exhaust and muffler mfg) is now producing / marketing Porsche replica shift knobs.

Just bought one for my 84. (5 speed) Quality and look are pretty good..... and the price was very reasonable...only about $40 bucks. There were definitely 4 and 5 speed pattern choices available. Suggest you Google it.

I believe (???) the '64/'65/'66 and possibly '67 came threaded, '68 and after used a "crush sleeve".

I use the 917 shifter ball. I have a 915 4-speed.

This is a bit of a flyer here, but I ordered an anodized black billet aluminum repro 911 (915-5) shift knob form these guys back in 2012. Looks EXACTLY link the factory Delrin knob, but uses 3 Allan-head screws to stay in place. This thing feels SOOO much better in my hand than the plastic factory knob and it is of very high quality. Pretty sure they were making 4-speed knobs too. It cost me $65 shipped to NorCar. The odd thing is these guy are primarily a motorcycle parts manufacturer.

here is an old thread.
