Seeking opinions on aftermarket sound deadening material (such as Dynamat et. al.)
I am curious to hear your personal experience with the addition of Dynamat or other stick down aftermarket sound deadening materials inside a 911.
Years ago I took my Carrera and stripped the interior, converting to a lightweight RS type carpet set. The heavy fiber mats that lay atop the rear seat pan and the engine cover (inside the car below the rear window) were removed and discarded. They also stunk so no loss. I'm at the point where I am drifting more towards a stock daily driver Carrera with a basic 2 in - 1 out Carrera exhaust from an RS. That has toned things down a lot from my ricey 2 in 2 out, but I'd also like to mask some of the tinny sounds and misc noises from the engine bay and seat pan area. I have a new sound pad installed in the engine bay, but nothing underneath the pieces of lightweight carpet inside the car. Finally the question: Is the Dynamat worth it, is there a better option, etc to quiet things down just a bit? I also want to make very sure that whatever I add to the car doesn't smell like sticky tar- I ran into this problem years ago with what I think was Dynamat when I used it in a small car. Thoughts?

BG,
There are a few comprehensive threads on this. You might want to do a search. I'm subscribed though. I'd like to hear some feedback. Scott

I used "Brown Bread", got it out of Canada. Works well and is sticky as hell.

Old dynamat was made out of asphalt which caused that sticky smell when it got hot out. Dynamat Xtreme is what they currently sell which is not asphalt but butyl and does not smell when things get hot. I've just installed dynamat Xtreme in my 911 a month ago but I haven't had a chance to drive the car to hear any differences. Damplifier is also a similar product which several board members have used with success.
