Hood Alignment Question

Hi Gents,

I've noticed that the hood on my '84 coupe seems to be out of alignment at the COWL by the windshield. The hood appears almost raised higher than the cowl section.

Any ideas what would cause this and how to fix? For what its worth I install new hood shocks last year I'm wondering if that had something to do with it, and I'm just now noticing.

Thanks for the help,
Derek

Derek,

If you fitted the up graded struts, yes this will lift the hood.

How's the rest of the hood fit to the fender, down the length of the hood?

If it's sitting a little lower along the fender, placing a washer under the front mounting bolt for the hood hinge, will drop the back of the hood.

You may then need to adjust the rubber bumpers at the front to maintain the hood fender line.

Hope that helps.

Thanks for the response - so bottomline... should I get new hood shocks again?

Which ones should I get that wont push up the hood near the cowl?

Thanks

Which ones did you fit?

Classic,

these are the exact ones that I ordered and installed last year.

(can't direct link - looks like pelican blanks automotion's name)

It's part number P902796 on the automotion website:

Thanks again,

I'm not familure with them, but they look like the standard ones, the upgraded ones have a thicker cylinder.

If you could post a photo of your gaps that would help.

I'm still thinking that a washer under the front bolt of the hinge will see the gap disappear, the technique is described well in the factory workshop manual.

The hood has a large amount of adjustment available at the hinge.
