My overly vocal hood latch

I can't seem to shut this stupid thing up! I have adjusted the catch on the body side down as far as possible and it doesn't seem to really be holding the hood down tight enough. Are there supposed to be any rubber peices to hold tension against the hood to cut down on the bouncing around?

I have lubed this thing up with 4 different kinds of grease and it only stays quiet for a day or so. Any help would be appreciated!

What year?
Are the rubber seals in place all the way around the perimeter?

What year is your car? On my 86 I have seals on all four sides of the hood and two bumpers on the body side at the front corners that can be adjusted up and down. The bumpers are round and stick up through a hole in each end of the plastic latch trim. Just turn the whole thing to adjust up or down. -J

It's an '80. I don't particularly remember seeing a seal there, i'll take a look tonight.

I took a look today, the rubber seal is intact and looks like the above picture.

I did notice a groove worn into the hood side of the latch which probably doesn't help.

Any other suggestions?

I had the same problem, it turned out to be the safety latch part that you move with your hand to release the hood, it had worn through the paint and was squeaking on the metal.

I tried silicon lube, electrical tape etc, in the end the most effective remedy was a liberal dose of old fassioned grease which seams to last approx 3 or 4 months before requiring a re-application.

the paint is worn off mine as well. I'll try your advice and see if it helps.
