Yesterday I installed a short shift kit in my '83 SC

I used Wayne's book plus a couple of technical articles from this site and, although this is my first project, it went fairly well and my car is running again.

However, I was not able to remove the knob from the old shifter, so I have installed a new Momo knob (black leather with some aluminium) which looks very nive and feels even better than the original.

I am very happy with the change and would recommend it to anyone.

Now I have only 100 more projects to go!!

Paco,
It is nice to see you are enjoying your 83 and have started improvement projects.

Paco - Good job! From a fellow '83 owner who has done both the short shift conversion and new shifter knob. To get the old knob off did you try the wrench that spans the shifter? I tried this and with a few taps it came right off.

What's next? I am in the process of installing the interior light delay and will do some suspension and steering upgrades this Winter.

Paco,

One thing I did was to also cut the shifter tube. So now my shifter stands shorter than normal. I am happy with the length!

Your next one s/b the attached!

Nice going, BTW!

I installed a SS a few years ago and have enjoyed it ever since. Just remember that it expodentially increases the pressure you put on the gears when shifting. Even though you don't want to force a shift with the OEM shifter, you really don't with the SS.

Cab83...
what is that you have clamped onto your steering wheel at around 3 o'clock? Is it a Brody knob?

What's the consensus regarding Weltmeister versus Porsche short shift kits? I drove a SC with a short shift recently and liked it a lot, but nobody knew if it was a Weltmeister or Porsche kit.

I've heard various things. Some people just love the Welmeister. However, I've also heard that the Weltmeister is harder on the transmission. Were I to buy one, I'd go with the Porsche - they probably know what they're doing.

Thanks for all the support. This board is great.

I guess I won't be doing any major projects for a while since that was part of the agreement with my wife. However I convinced her that I HAD TO install the short shift so, who knows...

There are so many things in the wish list: 16" Fuchs, Turbo steering wheel, carrera wing (with front spoiler of course), center console, Air conditioning (summers in Spain are really hot), SSIs, Fog lights, ...

I think that is why I've started playing the lottery...

:D

The unit @ 3:00 o'clock is my 007 unit. The top button is for (&*&(hole drivers and it shoots heat-seeking missile or 50 BMG's at a rate of 200/minute.

The bottom button is for the passenger seat. When a lady is sitting on it, I press the button, the seat folds to her left and her face lands between my legs!

Just little humor. It is for my radio. Awesome idea!

Hola, Paco!
Welcome to the Board!
It's good to know we have some SC owners in sunny Spain.
Perhaps you would consider being the President for a SCWDP Region in Madrid.

ZAMIRZ 08-30-2002 09:12 AM

cab 83, some questions:

Is that a real carbon fiber upper dash? If so, where and how much?

Are those white-face guages NR auto? They look good, and much more readable (even in the picture) than others I have seen. Also, where and how much?

I appreciate it.

regards,

amir '83 SC

Doug,

I just ordered two T-Shirts so I guess I'd qualify as president of the SCWDP in Madrid.

Thinking it over, since if this is a real World Domination Plot let's make it president of SCWDP Spain (no reason to limit one's goals)

Or... what about Southern Europe

Or...

:D

Doug Zielke 09-02-2002 08:04 AM

SCWDP President for *all* of Spain, you say??
Sounds like the "former" dictatorship in your lovely country, eh?
Ahh, what the hell, Go for it!
:D
