Weissach edition

I'll be looking at this Monday morning and if all goes well I'll be towing it home. I wanna drive it but it's a 5 hours drive back home, so I'm taking the dolly.

I always liked this model.
As I recall the package was paint, Sport seats trimmed in an orange piping. the tail and the color matched wheels..... But they were 15's which I didn't understand ?
Can't recall any other upgrades ? the other color was metallic black which seems to be harder to find ?

Edit: after looking again The orange rugs were also in the package...so funky their cool, and might be getting cooler....... only in a Porsche.

Tell us about this one

Check that car out very carefully. I'm pretty sure someone else here posted those same pics and I don't know why they didn't follow through. My resto is almost complete as I just need the tail back from the paint shop. I wasn't satisfied with the work done on it so I had another shop repaint it. The fresh motor is in as is the new leather. I just need to install the sunroof, tail and windows and she's done!

Btw, if you go to paintscratch.com, they added in Platinum Metallic today after I requested it!

1980 Weissach Edition SC - $8500

How do i check the head studs?

If it doesn't grind in the gears and I don't hear any knocking im buying it. Should I be OK towing with a dolly?

FYI - GAHH.com carries the leather needed for the interior. Talk to Jack as he is familiar with Weissachs and has a piping that is very close to the factory color.

COOL Thanks. How do I find out what number it is out of the 200? I saw on a different site http://www.pnwr.org/database/images/strickland.pdf #105 out of 200. What numbers tell me this?

you can check the head studs by removing the valve covers, particularly the exhaust side. If any are broken, you'll immediately be able to tell because they will be sitting in the covers.

A grinding downshift to 1st is typical for a 915 with over 100K . The trans is cheaper and easier to fix than broken headstuds. + 1 on look for broken studs. You can sometimes see them broken with a careful look with a flashlight. The exhaust side studs are dilivar and more prone to breakage. The upper studs are steel and seldom break.

the warped "smile" on the front means that there's some rust hiding under there. . . for what it's worth. You can press down on the smile and you'll hear the rust crunching.

Take your time DJ, while that is an interesting model, alot of mechanical issues can be a costly bummer on a Porsche.

Okay, let's back up...

This gentleman is trying to get this car home. He is going to drive it.

What does he need to do to be sure he doesn't break down? Are there any Pelicans who can line the route should he have a problem?

A car worth saving. I would:
= Charge the battery
= Check tire PSI
= Warm it up, then change the oil and filter
= Open and check air filter for squirrels or other
= Grab some Techron, then fill the tank up with fresh gas
= Other?

If you don't have AAA+ (the "plus" not the standard), I'd get it. It gives you 4x100 mile tows per year. Insurance for this car in case of problems. . .

Weissach

DJ,

I have followed your postings on the 912 section..I also have a 69 912 Targa. I bought my Weissach a little over a year ago now. I paid a little over twice the asking amount of this one. Mine has 112K miles(motor gone thru at 70K. It also has new interior and new paint(original color). I think it is called Pongee beige. The carpets and the piping are supposed to be Red....heat and sun fade turns them kinda orange. The car was built on the 930 body with 7 and 8 Fuchs color keyed to the beige. I think the metallic black ones also had the beige wheels. The one you are looking at shouldn't have the Carrera side stripe. I have the window sticker and these cars were over $30K new. If you Google it there are sites that are dedicated to the Weissach. When I bought mine I drove it from near Dayton,Ohio to Northern Arizona...without any real probs at all. Check out my Garage for pretty good pics of the car.

Good luck,
Mike

^ Thar's right the wheels on the black ones were the platinum metallic. I don't remember the other color you mentioned.

I have an old Excellence mag. from when these were new that profiled this model. They had it on the cover. I'll look for it.

I know two people who have the Weissach edition. One is a garage queen and the other is driven really hard. Mike is right, side script nor correct. It looks clean. If the motor starts up and no unusual sounds, heck I'd drive her home!
Any more pics of the steering wheel? from what I can see it does not look original.

We don't know where the car is... just 500 miles away from San Antonio (or 250, we don't know if 500 is the round trip on one way).

Sounds like it's a repo.
