After reading countless threads of restorations where new sheet of metal are used to replace those corroded by rust, and considering the prices in the heights of the early 911, I wondered if it would be possible to build a brand new long hood totally from original parts.
Which parts are no longer available, not even aftermarket? Can you imagine a "build yourself your own 911" kit? How much would you pay for it? |

If you get hold of the parts diagram, you can look up every number and check it out against PP's offer. :-)
Believe a fully built retail parts 911 would be at least a quarter million US - if parts bought from Porsche

They might cut you a deal for placing such a large order. The margins are probably high double digits. Or they might try to direct you to the nearest dealership to try to interest you in a (*gasp*) 991.

There was a mercedes parts guy who accumulated enough pieces through his career to build a "real" 300 SL. Somehow he got a spare frame but I don't know if it had a serial number.

A few years ago the BMW factory classic parts division (I think called Mobile Tradition..?) built a 2002 from scratch using all the available parts in their catalog. They did start with an older, bare shell, though. Nearly everything else was new.

There was/is a good market for the Dynacorn domestic bodies even with their known fitment issues. I believe there would be a genuine market for a well thought out and and executed long hood reproduction 911 body. If someone had the resources and a green light from Porsche, I'd think someone would have been all over it.
