Extended Steering Column

A gentleman on this board has a steering column for sale. It has been extended for use by taller individuals. It was made for a '72 911.
I am 6'5" with an 81 SC. Would this be a bolt on part for me? I know that the original design for the 911 had the ability to mount the column either left or right hand drive, so putting in a replacement shouldn't be that hard.
I have recently purchased an aftermarket steering wheel. I have been thinking of adding spacers to get the wheel closer to me. Would the Momo hub for '72 be different than the one for my '81? Should I just go with spacers, or try this column idea?
Thanks

If you've got a Momo wheel, I'd try either the stock Momo spacer or the 1" spacer from Smart Racing. I don't know anything about a modded steering column, but there was a factory option 018 that was "elevated steering hub and sport wheel". On the cars with this option I found the steering wheel to be in a much better position...higher and closer (I'm 6'1"). It gives more clearance between the wheel and dash, and also gives more leg/knee room underneath.

Momo makes a short and a long hub. I installed the long hub and two (0.5ish inch) spacers.
This frees up tons of leg room and gets the wheel closer to the body. It also raises the wheel a little so more of the gauge is visable.
The only down side is the turn signal switch is farther from the wheel but you just have to get used to the distance.

Take a look at this spacer:

Momo, Sparco and OMP steering wheels all use the same bolt pattern on the hub. You could buy an adjustable spacer, I've seen one from OMP, but I think you would end up only using it in one position, so it's not worth the extra cost.

If you were to use the original 911 wheel, the extended steering column would be great, provided that it fits your '81.
However, it sounds like you will be using a Momo wheel, so I would definetively go for the option with a spacer. Less work involved, and inexpensive.
