Removing tailpipe
I need to remove my tailpipe to rotate it. I may replace it all together with a larger one. Saw it off, or grind the weld?

Is that a stainless Dansk?
Grinding will be faster, but you might want to cut it tight then grind the old weld to get it clean. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
Yes, it's a stainless Dansk. Maybe I'll cut it close enough to be able to TIG weld it (in case I just turn the existing pipe), then I can grind it if I decide to change the pipe all together.
If the guts on the other side of the tailpipe aren't much larger, not sure going with a larger tailpipe will buy me much? Todd |
If I understand the Dansk construction correctly, I don't think there will be ANY gain (other than appearance) by going to a larger diameter tailpipe.

Not that the below picture is a Dansk, but I'm assuming the baffling is similar, which would mean it's probably not larger than the current tailpipe. That would lead me to agree that without some modification to the guts, the tailpipe size isn't going to have a major impact (at least by going larger).
Anyone know for sure? Thinking of renting a borescope and taking a peak in there before I cut the tailpipe off. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1389290371.jpg Todd |
