What emblem was on the 1969 decklid grill

I see 4 holes on the grill. What emblem was on the 1969 decklid grill.

None. No emblems on the grill until the 2.2 in 1970.

Here's my opinion. There was no engine size insignia mounted on the engine grille in 1969, 70 or 71. The grille mounted engine size (2.4) insignia first appeared on the '72 models in the upper right corner of the grille (B. Johnson's "Guide to Authenticity").

A guess regarding your four holes is perhaps the P.O. mounted a grille badge, such as "German Auto Club" for his/her own amusement.

My 70 came new with no grill badge. It had a 2.2 decal in the rear window.

My 1969 has 5 straps and 13 bars.
I've owned it since 1977
Must of been an owner added on insignia.

.
Yeah, I agree. My brain was thinking of the decal for the 2.2 but, what got in the way is that I built a custom 2.2 badge to put on my grill.

I had badge envy...

Your '69 should only have 3 bars, so sometime in that 8-year period it must have been damaged and swapped out with what the dealer had in stock at the time -- a 5-bar '70+ grille. You've owned the car for a long time, but think of how many 8-year-old cars have been damaged and repaired at least once, sometimes more. - Matt

This^^

The three strap grille in 69 was subject to bending of the bars between the center and outer straps--very common to see a wavy grille on that year. Replacement with a later grille would not be unusual.

I see. I have a 70+ grille. So the holes could be for engine size badge.

Is there such a thing as a 2.5L engine size insignia? 2.5L is what I have for engine size.

Grill mounted engine size on a 1972? My all original '72 did not have an engine badge on the grill. Was that different for Targas?
