Is this the same company that frequently has hardtops on ebay? I was real tempted recently to "bid" on one, but I want more information from people who have purchased.

This isn't Sundial Enterprises (felix). Sundial has a completely different solution to the latching mechanism. joeaksa bought one as the Official Pelican Parts Sacrificial Lamb (OPPSL) and can fill you in on his experiences/opinions.

Jerry, piping in here with the lowdown on the top.
The top will be available in november and is a ridgid fiberglass shell that will attach to your exisiting frame & convert the top to a hard top, using all of stock hardware and rubber. The top will be black gelcoat finish suitable for painting or covering with oem material.{ the factory oem cover will attach directly with slight modification}Got the first part out of the mold today and i will be doing test fits and some final determinations on how to make it as user friendly as possible for the average DIY.
Then write the instructions, do the pictures and marketing material and get it on pelicanparts.com for the orders to come flowing in.
If you want me to let you know exactly when its available send me a e-mail at jerryjmproduct@aol.com and i will put you on the list.
Is'nt it funny how much attention a grey targa top attracts, my wife said " you are not going to Ventura with the top looking like that are you", i said" damn straight woman"-in my head and said" yes dear "out loud.

Just in time for my targa top recovering project! What do you plan on charging?

An exact price has not been computed yet, but it will be around $500.00 on pelicanparts.com. I still need to finalize the attaching hardware and a few other details . This top will attach to your targa frame using the exisiting rubber and latches and is a top quality part made from hand layed cloth{no chopper glass here}.

Jerry, maybe I'm missing something here (and your product looks like a quality item), but what is the benefit of the hard top if the existing frame/seals are used? I thought the seal/leaking problems were the main complaint with factory Targa tops. -- Curt

Curt, the reason most people have sealing problems with the stock top is because of all the moving parts{6 hinges and clips that don't really hold}. My top mounts solidly to the entire peremiter of the frame causing it to become one solid piece that won't move around and tweek in several different directions at the same time. When you latch it down the force applied by the latches is spread over the entire front edge of the top not just at area of the latch like a soft top.
I don't want to become a target like Sundial did for putting out an inferior product. My top will perform at a superior level or i won't put it out.

On an unrelated note: Jerry, your wheels look great in that picture! Polished within an inch of their lives.

Emanuel, you know i really don't spend that much time on the wheels, i polish them about twice a year with mothers, I use an air tool w/ a loose buffing wheel so i can get down into the edges without to much hand work. sprinkle corn starch on the wheel to soak up the oily stuff left by the mothers and your done. About 4 or 5 hours a year.

Thanks Jerry. That makes sense. I'm one of these guys that pretty much drives with the top off, so I have very little experience with the wind/water leaks everyone talks about! -- Curt

Curt, not only does the hard top work so much better at keeping out the water and wind, it is so much quieter. All of the noises associated w/ the soft top are gone, rattles, squeeks and road noises are not much of an issue since i got my hard top. My wife accused me spending money on a new stero in the car the first time she road in it with the hard top on, it just sounded better and was easier to hear.
The top i am making is molded off of an oem hard top, so it is a perfect replica of the factory top .
