Gauge power question

I have a 89 targa I am trying to wire a new triple cluster gauge from NH speedo. I was trying to power the volt gauge by jumping off the positive terminal (red w/blue stripe)of the oil level gauge. When I turned the key on I now see the oil level gauge is pegged on at it's max position. I have disconnected the power tap and still get the same results. Did I somehow blow my gauge? I have more questions on powering the triple gauge but right now I want to get things working again.

Man I hate it when I fix it until it's broke.

Carl

Having no responses does anyone know the 3 wire colors for the oil level gauge? My Bently shows a white wire for my '89 but I can find a white wire.

Thanks
