Quick Alternator Question.
Hi there,
I’m looking for some advice/comment on reconnecting a new Wilson alternator to replace an old SEV Marchal on a 1979 911 SC. The new unit was specified for the car, but the wire connections are quite different. Previously, the following connections were in place on the SEV Marchal: large red wire – post marked “B+” large blue wire – post marked “+61” single brown wire – post marked “D-“ group of smaller brown wires - post marked “D-“ small blue wire attached to a spade pin on the voltage regulator (marked “DL”). See attached photos of the unit connect and unconnected. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1390198684.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1390198736.jpg The Wilson alternator has three posts: 2 on the area marked “D-“: “D-“ next to the internal voltage regulator and, I'm, assuming the "61" post the opposite side - is this correct?. 1 on the area marked 2B, effectively “B+”. See attached photos. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1390198806.jpg So the question is: which wires go where on the Wilson unit? Looking at this thread (http://forums.pelicanparts.com/porsche-911-technical-forum/172131-alternator-issues.html), and in particular, Technical Bulletin 1 “New Alternator has Integrated Regulator”, I think I’m supposed to do the following: 1. Connect the Red Wire to the “B+” post 2. Connect the Blue Wire to the “61” post 3. Connect all the brown wires to the “D-“ post 4. Cut off the DF wire at the branch – or can I just tape it up for future use of necessary? 5. But – I’m confused by the following statement: “Fasten multiple-pin plug of removed regulator on wire harness” 6. Reinstall alternator in fan housing... Any comments would be most appreciated. Thanks in advance - obviously I'm new to this! This is my first Porsche and the PO did not look after it very well. Myron |
