Cross country transport
Go west young man, go west. I've finally decided to hit the road and move to sunny California from the frigid east coast and politics of DC. I'll be driving one of my cars out but need to transport my 930. I need recommendations for reliable transporters and hopefully a few pointers on what to watch out for when hiring a company. I've heard some horror stories about cars that ended up being damaged etc so any suggestions you have will be greatly appreciated. Thanks! :confused

Here's an article I wrote recently about transport companies. Insurance should be your major concern. You want to get a copy of the policy from the insurance company - not the trucking company. Also, ask if they sell loads off to other companies. A lot of companies do that. They usually forget to tell you about it.

Thomas Sunday is an operator from Pennsylvania, and he has an excellent reputation, based on the sayso of some fellow PCA members.

Winter? Go enclosed and pay the freight....or get someone to drive it out and follow you.
Never used them but never heard a bad thing about InterCity.

I'd suggest Intercity or Passport/Fedex. Be as flexible on dates as you can. Make the pickup point easy to access for the driver, make friends with him when you deliver the car and help get it loaded.
Avoid any brokers, such as Uship. Deal only with companies that don't pawn cars off to other shippers. Do not use Horseless Carriage. JR |

I had a bad deal with intercity and swore I wouldn't use them again...I've since used Thomas Sunday, they were perfect. Absolutely perfect.

Do NOT use Dependable Auto Shippers, or you too could be dealing with this...

My one and only experience was with Thomas Sunday transporting a 928 from Seattle to NJ. Not cheap, but the car arrived undamaged and the customer service was good

transportation company
Be careful. I used dependable auto shippers based on that they use their own trucks and drivers. The delivery was ok. It went to a terminal in Oakland, CA. I paid about $300 extra for covered transport. Earlier this year I used Door to Door transport who advertises that they use their own trucks. They basically sub contracted to the low bidder who hauled to Los Angeles. I live 350 miles north. The car (a e320 Mercedes-I have to have one car with defrosters and air conditioning) was delivered on a trailer being pulled by a pick up with the logo Gypsy car transport. It had severe scratches on the side. The good companies are not that much more and the bad ones can really damage your car. Any more transports for me...I will fly with a buddy and have a nice road trip.

When you call around you always need to ask if they actually own trucks. A lot of these people are just brokers who sell your contract to a guy who actually owns a truck.

Intercity are not brokers.
This is white glove service you can trust. As an OCD 911 owner I used them to move my 911. Excellent service for the price.

I used Plycar enclosed transport for a Turbo Look Cab from Virginia Beach to Bend Oregon. Very professional with absolutely no issues. Price was better (a bit) than Reliable.
