rear luggage rack?

Anyone ever run a rear luggage rack? I've seen ads in Excellence for removable (ie no drilling) racks. I'm trying to come up with a solution for carrying either my boogie board bag (holding fins and wetsuit too), or just the board (and putting the other stuff in a plastic box). I suppose softracks on the top are a possibility too.

I'm sick of driving PCH or Kanaan-Dume to get to Zuma in the 4-runner with the 911 left sitting in the garage

I don't have one of these, but I've been thinking about it for awhile. I've never seen one live, and I'd like to before I get one, but this year I may give up and just get one. we'll see..

Let me know what you do!

I have seen the rear luggage rack on a couple SC's. They look pretty good but I don't know how easily they R&R. It would probably work.

However, please don't disgrace the 911 with a boogie board tied to the back were everyone can see. If your surfing Waimea shorebreak, Sandies or The Wedge I can understand the boogie board thing when there is enough power being generated by the water coming down on you to light a city for a week,

but Zuma?

Won't the little girls run you over?

It's a good thing Nostatic is thick skinned. Now that you've got a 911, the board is just dying to find something else to jab you with. Gotta admit it though...the Zuma thing is pretty funny!

Well Paul, I grew up boogie boarding Marine Street in San Diego, which is a very similar break to the Wedge. When I lived in Claremont I would drive down and surf Newport River Jetties down to 56th. I didn't do the Wedge because I don't like crowds...that and the fact that at 40 with a kid, I don't go out in really heavy water. On my honeymoon though I did take my board to Kauai and surfed Hanalei Bay at about 6-8'. One of the fastest wave's I've ridden.

Plus, you've obviously never seen Zuma going off:

I usually hit Drainpipes (just south of Zuma) since it is a bit thicker and hollower. But as luck would have it about 5 weeks ago while going through the washing machine I bounced hard off the bar and hurt my rotator cuff...it still hurts.

Hanalei bay is alot of fun. I have a friend I went to college with who lives across the street from it. Lots of fun, but haven't been back in a couple of years. Ever get to V-land? I lived across the street ffrom the break for 1.5 years. That's my favorite break and much less crowned than the others. Just remember to let da hui have their waves and your fine.

never been to v-land. H Bay was amazing, in part due to paddling out along with sea turtles (!). I only took a couple of waves, giving way to the locals unless I was clearly the one in position.

I grew up surfing most of the breaks in San Diego with Marine Street and various La Jolla reefs being favorites. The most insane stuff was up in San Francisco though. Really frickin' cold, vicious side current, and I *watched* 25' plus surf roll in. Despite the conditions and really fickle winds, I got some of the best in/out tube rides ever.

I'll ignore the double entendre and possible references to Thom's thread...

You know, those rain gutters make very stout attachment points for a Thule (or Yakima) roof rack. Get the front fairing, and it looks very cool. I used mine for mountain bikes and snowboards, and I've seen some guys use them to carry tires to the track. Takes about ten minutes to attach/remove the roof rack en-bloc.
