9 second 1/4 mile in 912
So what's the big deal with ricer cars? The Japanese econoboxes are usually talked about like there's some sort of magic that defies the laws of physics. Not! Heck, here's a 30-year old 4 cylinder early Porsche running 9.79 in the 1/4 mile. And note the lack of goofy wings, coffee can exhaust pipes, stickers, etc. !

Considering that VW drag racing has been around since the early sixties, I would hope that you can stick a 400Hp turbo type 1 engine in a 912 and run 9's.
The Ricers have had a uphill battle. I applaud their efforts. B |

Yes, the owner and engine builder on that 912 are well known VW builders in the UK. And a 9 is a 9.....no matter what car runs it....it is still cool. In fact our very own Keith S had a 9 second VW a few years back. Currently there have been a few VW doorslammer cars in the 8's. Ron Lummis has a 8 sec new beetle powered by a aircooled turbo VW engine that competes in teh Import Racing series. VW Paradise in San Diego recently went 6.71 @202mph in thier Turbo/Nitrous VW dragster.

Ha ha..
Pretty funny. I have found that I'm a car guy and not just a Porsche guy. I know just about all the history on the SBC and the 911 engine. I know how long it took people to get where they are today with these two engines. Comparing that same time frame with what the Ricers have done with their engines and it becomes apparent they are ahead of the curve. Very few Porsche engine builders have achieved the naturally asperated goal of 1hp per liter on pump gas, where the Ricers achieved this goal fairly quickly. No need for the violin. B |
