1995 993 stall under load & Idle
Hello gang, my first time here and hope you can help. The car in question is a 95' 993 C2 with about 122k miles. Purchased 3/2003. Car ran great for some time, but started to develop an intermittent stall while at idle and would not immediately restart (always at a stop light with lot's of honking and looks of scorn). Also, under hard acceleration, especially during warmer outdoor ambient temps, the engine stumbles hard and the check engine light flashes on and off, then will idle great for a little while and ultimately stall. Is this a MAF issue or speed sensor or some other electrical gremlin? Anyone experience these symptoms and found a fix?
I appreciate any input. Randy-Carlsbad CAhttp://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1390255032.jpg |
I would start by cleaning the idle stabilizer valve, relatively easy and free diy. Pretty common for these to cause idle issues.

swap you DME relay and get that off the list of possibilities- it controls the fuel. Common failure.
Also, cylinder head temp sensor and oxygen sensor can do the same thing. Check for vacuum leaks at boots. Then AFM. hope this helps |
David, thanks for the DIY write ups that you did. It'll help a lot of people that own 993's and future owners too. (Me) While I couldn't comment on Randy's problem I can say welcome to the Pelican parts forum where people help people. Oh, nice 993!

Jesset, I didn't mean to impy that I did those writeups. I have just found them to be a valuable resource but had nothing to do with writing them.

After cleaning the ISV you might also get it hooked up to a Bosch 9288 Hammer and have them run a System Adaptation program. Most Independent Shops should have the Hammer. IIRC it still works on the 95 993 DME. It's called a hammer because it kind of looks like one. Good Luck

"intermittent stall while at idle and would not immediately restart (always at a stop light with lot's of honking and looks of scorn)"
Know the feeling - happened to me in a ML350 (W163) on Christmas Eve a few years ago - replaced crank position sensor and all was good. Worth a look? |
