Turbo Tie Rod Wear

Do "turbo tie rods" wear out in the same way that the regular non-turbo ones do?

The reason I ask... I have a pair of brand new unused turbo tie rods that I meant to install on a car that I no longer own. The car that replaced it already has turbo tie rods on it that were installed by the previous owner during a suspension refresh about 12 years ago.

Steering feels great, no complaints, but I'm about to have it pulled apart to have new shocks and a full corner balance and alignment done — should I have the new turbo tie rods installed at the same time, or are the old ones not really a "wear item"? Happy to sell the new ones, if there's no point..

Ask them to check the tie rods when you have the struts replaced. It should be a free check that only takes a few seconds for each side.

Time doesn't wear out tie rods, mileage does. How many miles since they were replaced? Even if it's 100Kmi, in my experience these things don't wear out unless the boot gets damaged and lets water and dirt into the joint. I replaced the regular tie rods in my 1973 two years and 7000 miles ago. The original 50-year old, 120Kmi. rods were still good.

As dannobee said, it's easy to check. But I would want a good explanation if the shop recommends replacing them.

Have them checked for wear by your shop. And as suggested, check for a torn boot, which would mean that they are about to wear out. But if they are not worn, personally I wouldn't bother to replace them.
