L.A. 915 rebuild -- has anyone heard of Box & Gear Transmissions?

A friend needs work done on an old 915, and someone recommended Box & Gear Transmissions in Van Nuys. I don't know anything about them.

But then, there's probably a lot that I don't know about. Has anyone dealt with them?

I think Tony at TLG has forgotten more about 915's that many shops know.

Jack, Marc @Red Line Service, 310-280-0700, will be glad to help your friend. His shop is just off the 10 at Robertson.

Before one of our clients discovered us, he had his 74 915 rebuilt by this outfit. Leaks, hard to engage gears were not to his liking.
As he had a warranty with them, we were not tasked to do the rebuild. He took the box back to them and they honored the warranty. No more leaks and it shifts normally now.

+1 on TLG.
Great people over there.
I had my 915 repaired over there and that was 50k miles ago and the gearbox is holding up nicely.

Never heard of them. My go to 915 guys in SoCal are Aase and TRE. TLG is excellent well, they just don't do a ton of Motorsports stuff so don't need my parts too often.

There are many great shops in LA. If I had outsource a 915 rebuild. I would either use TRE in N. Hollywood or Glen Yee Racing in San Dimas.

Thanks, guys. It's not my own box, so I wanted to see if these guys had any presence in the Porsche world before I made my own (more sensible) suggestion.

Dave/TRE did mine years ago and I have been very happy with it.
