Took it in the rear!

So sad........was making a quick trip to the closest grocery store to buy swim diapers and was stopped at a red light with a car in front of me and another behind.

Light turned green and the car in front was turning left, but had to give the right-of-way to cross traffic before he could turn. The car pulled into the intersection to wait his turn to go so I pulled up slowly behind him. The car behind me hesitated to go when we moved, then when the car behind me finally went I could hear them accelerate until after the impact.

Their insurance will cover it all. The bad news is I'm missing my car for at least two weeks during a perfect Oregon summer, where you can drive topless almost 24/7 without A/C (which I do not have, not that it ever worked).

The good news is since the car is in the shop I finally have the motivation I need to get the ducktail I damaged repaired and the front hood repainted (bad prepwork on the previous respray before I owned it.

no to bad, still sorry to hear and see.

on a side note though what kind of rig hit you? this was the reason behind me removing my bumperettes (the car is so low already what are they really going to protect in a world of huge suv's)

Sorry to see - good luck. Take solace in knowing at least you didn't take it in your other rear

It was not even an SUV- just a current body style Camry. It appears to have hit the top portion of the passenger side bumperette and went up over it.

You're obviously lower than what cars today consider factory height, and that guy must've crapped his pants when he realized he had just hit a P-car.

Bummer. Good attitude though - make lemonade when life gives you lemons - please post an "after" pic with the ducktail!

Bummer, hope everything works out. Nice looking car.

People are just too distracted or uncaring when they drive these days. Had a lady rear end me in a similar way, but I was in my Jeep. The front end of her minivan did not look too good afterward. All I ended up with was one sheared bolt on the rear bumper.

I second jnewman's request. Post some pics of that ducktail when done.

The lady was pretty worried that she had hit such a "nice" car. She doesn't know her toyota is worth more than my SC.

I got a couple of recommendations from the local porsche repair shops and went with the one I felt most comfortable with. I'll post up happy pictures when it's done.....

Yeah, bummer when I am out in the p car or the DD I am always more concern about the morons behind me than ones in front.

Seems some folks just can't detach the cell phone or focus on driving these days.

Precisely why I gave up riding, and sold my Harley last year. And I'm always concerned as to what's behind me in the P-cars.

Bad news to see the damage
Good news is, yes good news ,the rear guards are not creased further up from the damaged zone ,then you would have some big issues to deal with, and you now get the momentum to finish it off properly, not that you needed your car whacked in the rear for that ,just saying from a positive note. Really hope all repairs are carried out to a HIGH standard, now that will be your real issue at hand.
Regards Brett L

It's hard to tell if this SC had a third brake light installed but apparently it may have made a difference:

Quote:
In 1974, psychologist John Voevodsky tested a small, inexpensive gadget that would eventually make U.S. highways much safer. The gadget was a third brake light, mounted in the base of rear windshields so that when drivers pressed their brakes, a triangle of light warned following drivers to slow down. To test whether such a small addition would make a significant difference, Voevodsky equipped 343 San Francisco taxicabs with the third brake light and left 160 taxis with no additional light as a control group. Taxi dispatchers then randomly assigned taxi drivers to taxis with or without the third light, regardless of drivers' expressed preferences. At the end of a 10-month experiment, taxis with a third brake light had suffered 60.6% fewer rear-end collisions than had the control-group taxis. Additionally, drivers of taxis with the third brake light that were struck in the rear by other vehicles were injured 61.1% less often than were drivers of taxis without the light, and repairs to all taxis with the light cost 61.8% less than did repairs to taxis without the light.
While following my own Carrera driven by a friend I noticed that the tail and brake lights seemed a little dim, I'll be checking into that soon.
