Foam inside of Longhoods??

Hey guys,
Just had a hood for a 71 dipped and it seems there is foam inside of it.
Has anyone dealt with this? Is it a pain to remove (if possible)? How much is there inside the panel?

Any help/insight would be awesome! Thanks guys!

Nick

I have had four long hoods, none of which had any foam inside the hood. I assume you mean some kind of foam injected between the supporting ribs and the outside sheet metal, correct?

If you talking the foam on front part of the Hood. You can see it when you take off the Hood latch it use to give more strengh to panel if no rust i would not take it off.

Correct the foam is in the raised portion where the latch is.
I assume its ok to leave as there was no major rust there to begin with.

The thing is its been dipped to strip all rust etc....I am just worried about future corrosion developing as we really cant seal the inside now.

Wonder why Porsche put foam in this area...maybe to prevent dents from people putting their hand on the hood to close it???

Hood infill foam

Porsche used the infill foam for front hood stiffness. It would prevent the light bumps and heavy-hand closing indents.

Depending where the car has been - rust belt - sea salt area - or any prior repairs - it was a breeding ground for internal rusting.

Here is a look inside of a hood that still had some foam left after a prior "very poor" repair. That previous repair just accelerated further rusting:
